The paper mountain culture, known as the "living fossil" of ancient Chinese papermaking, will be officially included in the third batch of provincial historical and cultural protection areas by the provincial government. Recently, the demonstration of the protection scope of Shuidukeng Village and Huangkeng Village, the ancient villages of Zeya Paper Culture in Ouhai District, has been passed.
The ancient village of Ouhai Zeya Paper Culture is the only "living fossil" of papermaking in the country. The paper-making workshop represented by the Four Liandui, which was built in the Ming Dynasty, is one of the four great invention sites in China. In 2001, the State Council listed it as the fifth batch of national cultural relics protection units and became the only "national treasure" of China's paper-making culture.
Shuidukeng Village and Huangkeng Village are two ancient villages in Zeya that are relatively intact. Located in the embrace of mountains, Shuidukeng Village has a history of more than 200 years. The current resident population is 76 people, all residents are the Pan family. There are more than 20 ancient residential buildings in the village, with unique shapes, orderly layout, and complete preservation. The village has 3 water tanks, 27 paper troughs, and 39 pickling ponds. Huangkeng Village is surrounded by mountains and two streams flow into it. It has a history of more than 700 years. There are currently 167 permanent residents in the village. The residents are mainly two families named Huang and Wu. The well-preserved Huangkeng Palace built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the Wu's Ancestral Hall built in the Yongle Period of the Ming Dynasty, and the Huang Keng Temple built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty There are more than 40 ancient dwellings, including the old house of the clan and the Wu clan's ancestral hall built in the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, as well as 5 water pits, 36 paper troughs, and 56 pickling ponds.
The preliminary value assessment of relevant experts believes that the ancient villages of Shuudukeng and Huangkeng are a precious cultural heritage left by the ancestors, and are historical witnesses of the social development of Zeya Paper Mountain, and have very important historical and cultural value.
