Cai Lun's papermaking is popular in Dai villages

Apr 26, 2021

Cai Lun's papermaking, one of the four great inventions of the Chinese nation with a history of 1800 years, is still popular in Dai villages on the border of China and Myanmar under the influence of industrial civilization.

In mangtuan village, Mengding Town, Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, rows of bamboo paper frames are placed in every courtyard. This year, mangtuan village has been listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

Focus: Zhang Shicai, deputy director of Lincang Culture Bureau of Yunnan Province, told the reporter: "the technological process and production technology are easy to master and operate. All processes are manual operation, and the papermaking equipment, except for an iron pot, is all locally made bamboo and wood utensils and stones, which is the biggest difference between mengdinggoupi papermaking and modern papermaking."
